These are the 10 most popular holiday destinations for the Dutch in 2022

Which countries would the Dutch person most like to travel to in 2022? Research from a large-scale survey by Columbus Travel shows that faraway destinations have made a comeback this year. But number 1 is a European country that rivals the nature of many of these distant destinations.

More than five thousand Dutch travelers filled in their bucket list in response to a call from Columbus Travel and the leading Dutch travel organization RIksja Travel. When asked which countries are on the bucket list for 2022, no less than 14% of all respondents answered that they would like to travel to Iceland. This puts this country at the top of the bucket list for the Dutch, followed by Canada, where 12.5% of travelers would like to go this year, and Argentina and Australia, where one in ten Dutch people would like to go on holiday.

Distant destinations are back

With the exception of the frontrunner Iceland and the last of Lapland, the most popular countries for the Dutch traveler this year are distant destinations. Besides Canada, Argentina and Australia, the USA, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and Cuba are particularly popular. Nature appears to be the main motivation for traveling to these destinations. “The top 10 is extremely diverse – we want to go back to every corner of the world,” said Columbus Travel editor-in-chief Mark Mackintosh. "The results of the survey show that, unlike last year, we dare to dream beyond Europe again."

“We see that our travelers are ready to explore the wide world again,” adds Fenny Koppen, CEO of Riksja Travel. "Africa, the US and Canada are particularly busy, but Iceland is also fully booked and is one of our most popular European destinations."
