Out with children? The following is fun to do!

You can of course choose to go to a child-friendly holiday park in the Netherlands. Really a week or a midweek away together. But just days out with children is of course also a lot of fun.

Amusement park de Efteling

Who doesn't know the Efteling? The amusement park where there is plenty to do for young and old. Remains a winner if you want to go out with your children, but it is not for nothing. I always think the Efteling itself is a very expensive day. This is of course also because we also eat the necessary on site, but even if you bring all your food and drinks with you, you will lose a lot of money at the entrance. Nevertheless, we like to go to the Efteling with the children once a year and autumn is perfect for that.

For the smaller children there is, among other things, the fairytale forest, the carnival festival (don't forget the earplugs because you will not lose that song in the coming months 😉 ) or the Panda dream. The older children will enjoy themselves fantastically in other attractions such as the Piranha, The Flying Dutchman. And for the real daredevils, rollercoasters such as Vogelrok, Joris and the dragon and the Baron are of course super.

A visit to a zoo

There are plenty of zoos that not only have a nice area outside, but also beautiful indoor accommodations if the weather is bad. An overview of zoos in the Netherlands can be found here. Choose one and enjoy a day of monkey watching with your kids!

Diergaarde Blijdorp in Rotterdam, for example, is a very nice zoo that has everything divided into different continents. You will find the animals and plants that belong to each continent. In addition, they have the oceanarium. You step into the underwater world here. It's like standing on the seabed yourself. Rays and sharks swim above your head and you can see the sea lions and penguins. Nice! If you like you can also watch the sea lions being fed at certain times. Going out with children to see animals is great, but if they are just tired of the animals, there is also Biotopa. This is an indoor playground in the Blijdorp zoo where the children can climb, clamber and slide to their heart's content.

Gaasterland nature week

Going out with children is also very good in Gaasterland, an area in Friesland that is very wooded. If you love nature, these forests are a must for young and old. During the autumn holidays, the whole week is filled with all kinds of fun activities. There are fun outdoor excursions for the whole family. There is also a gnome trail, a special nature trail for children where they can discover all kinds of things about the Gaasterland forests and nature. Special discovery backpacks are available for older children.

Cinekid festival; out with children in media land

This is an annual event for children from 4 to 14 years old during the autumn holidays. The largest children's film and media festival in the world. A lot of things are organized online, but you can also visit various locations in the Netherlands offline. The Cinekid festival is mainly about introducing the children to all products from the media industry, among other things. For example, you can watch 100 wonderful film and TV programs, but there are also fun workshops and master classes for children. They can also get acquainted with all kinds of fun and beautiful apps, games and tools. They can do this in the so-called Media lab. You could compare this with a very large playground, but then in the digital field. Fun, and educational, I'll just skip this one with my son, it's digital enough to my liking 😉 .

Just nice with children to the playground

An outing with your children or a day out does not necessarily have to be expensive. For example, choose to go to a playground in the Netherlands during the fall that you have never been to. You will find the best outdoor playgrounds in the Netherlands in this blog. Put on warm clothes, take tasty things with you or go somewhere nearby to drink hot chocolate or eat a pancake and the day will be a success for your children!

Lego World

This annual event at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht is based entirely on the world-famous colored Lego blocks or building blocks. Every autumn holiday, the children can play with the colored blocks themselves and make the most beautiful buildings. That's not the only thing, there is also a Lego cinema and museum, for example. Of course you can also view all kinds of beautiful large Lego buildings and discover the latest Lego types. A super fun outing with children, but there is plenty to do for the whole family. Also a very suitable outing for a day when the weather is less good during the autumn holidays.

Note:Lego World will not take place in 2020 due to corona

Visit museums during the autumn-holiday if you want a day out with children

Not all museums are popular with children. At least not with our children. But I do know a few that they really like and I'm happy to tip them:

  • Image and sound museum in Hilversum
  • PIT museum in Almere
  • Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen
  • Nemo
