What do we all take with us on winter sports?

Every year it is a struggle with all the luggage. What do we all take with us on winter sports? Although Frank always makes a nice packing list for winter sports, it is always a matter of checking whether everything fits in the car. And even though we have a roof box, nowadays the need to go on holiday without the roof box is growing, it drives just that little bit better.

There are already a lot of families who are on holiday at the moment, but we don't have a day off until the carnival and for that holiday we have also booked our ski holiday. We are now busy preparing for winter sports, including the packing list.

Packing list winter sports, what do we take with us?

Admittedly, it's getting easier. Now that the kids are growing up, you don't have to think about diapers anymore. On the other hand, our children have more and more 'own stuff' when it comes to skiing. No own skis and boots yet, we are just as happy to rent them on the spot. Otherwise, you will continue to buy new ski boots every year with growing children, which is also a bit of a shame.

Note to myself: Don't take too much. Every year we (eventually) return with a suitcase full of clean clothes. So we should have left them at home.

Packing-list for extra-stuffed-things-during-winter-sports

The packing list below is intended as an extra list compared to the holiday checklist that you normally already have. You will not find on this list how many underpants you should take with you 😉 .

Packing-list winter-sports-clothing

  • Ski pants(s)
  • Ski jacket (you throw it on top of your luggage)
  • Thermo underwear
  • Pullis and/or sweaters
  • Scarf, ski gloves, ski socks
  • Ski helmet, goggles, sunglasses
  • Skis, ski boots and ski poles (we rent these for the children)
  • Snow boots (very useful)
  • Swimwear; great for children to relax in a different way during winter sports

The above should in any case not be missing on the packing list for winter sports. In order to take all our ski clothes with us, in addition to the clothes we need for the moments when we are not skiing, we want to buy a new Samsonite suitcase this year. I just need to check which one exactly. If only they had that Zebra variant for adults too 😉 .

Hint: Have your own skis waxed in the Netherlands, well before you go on a skiing holiday. It's that easy!

Packing list winter sports car

Of course you should have all the standard stuff you normally need when you travel. In addition, the following matters are also important to us for the winter sports packing list:

  • Pills against motion sickness so that Lotte does not become nauseous
  • Winter tires; nowadays you really can't escape this, it is even mandatory in Germany
  • Snow chains; you don't always need them, but it's nice to have them in the back, just to be safe
  • Cushions to sleep well in the car 😉

Packing list winter sports miscellaneous

We always buy the ski passes on site, but you could also order them in advance. In that case, they also belong on the packing list for winter sports of course!

  • Sunscreen
  • Lip Balm
  • Velcro strip to put over your skis so that they stay together when you want to put them away
  • Money/debit/credit card
  • Passports
  • Autobahnvignette
  • Any environmental sticker for Germany (read here whether you need such a sticker)
  • Details of the booked accommodation
  • First aid kit
  • Games for the road (due to possible traffic jams)

Packing list winter sports insurance

  • European Health Insurance Card (this is really important, we have experienced this for a number of years in a row. Every ambulance and hospital asks for this. If you don't have one, you have a lot of extra administrative hassle to have all costs covered and you sometimes even have to pay in advance (by credit card or something). We have needed this card for years in a row, so I am very happy that we have it. Even though we are going for a winter sport without accidents this year.
  • Travel insurance
  • Cancellation insurance (also really recommended, unfortunately we have already had to use it several times).
  • For completeness, also check your car insurance for any help along the way
