Checkpoint Theater:a spectacular interactive family show

Checkpoint Theater is an interactive family show full of experiments and even explosions. A performance in which you as an audience can participate, both on stage and in the hall. A performance where your child does not have to sit still! Sounds good, right? I went to the theater in Nieuwegein with my children (10, 8 and 6 years old) for a spectacular Checkpoint Theater experience.

'Put on your safety glasses and hearing protectors, because there are going to be explosions'

As soon as you hear this, put on your safety glasses and hearing protectors. You will receive this on arrival and you will need it regularly during the performance. Super exciting of course! As soon as the alarm goes off, the children are eagerly waiting for what is to come. And of course the performance is safe, rest assured. We all know by now that doing experiments and interactivity is very popular with children.

Checkpoint Theater:experiments we learn from

Presenter Rachel Rosier and her two assistants introduce us to the world of experiments in the Checkpoint Theater. Meanwhile, a blistering battle is waged between the boys and the girls. Who are the best in the tests? That creates a small division in our camp. Suddenly it's mother and daughter vs. the two brothers 😉 .

Various types of scientific experiments are performed during the performance. From small explosions to decorating with leaf blowers. And educational too! For example, did you know that you can walk on water with cornstarch? Or how many balloons do you need to carry a human? How many sheets of newspaper do you need to stop a falling bowling ball from 2.5 meters high?

During the performance we not only learn a lot, but we also enjoy the tests that the children in the room can participate in. The hovercraft hover test, stick yourself to the wall with a Velcro suit, give directions when aiming a smoke cannon... we are never bored!

The power of the performance

The strength of Checkpoint Theater is the interactivity of the performance. You get to stand, call out clues, and if you're lucky, join in on the stage as well. There is a lot going on on stage for 1.5 hours and the time flies by. Afterwards, the children run out of the room full of adrenaline. Their red cheeks betray their enthusiasm. “This was really cool, Mom!” says Eldest Son. His sister and brother nod in agreement. Once at home they enthusiastically tell their father what they have seen. What they don't tell you that afternoon will be discussed at breakfast the next morning.

Conclusion

In short, we enjoyed this interactive performance. Although the performance is from 8 years old, Youngest Son of 6 years also really liked it. The attention never slackened, because the performance was fluent and samples followed each other in quick succession. Kudos also to the team behind the scenes, who had to quickly set up and clean up all the stuff during the performance.

Also to the Checkpoint Theater?

Very simple, this is a get-away tip that I can recommend to everyone. Do you also want to go to the Checkpoint Theater? The performance can be seen in various theaters in the Netherlands until the end of May 2017. Click here for the dates and tickets.
